OBITUARIES
Lynn Iris Buchanan Rankin
1944 – 2020
It is with deep sorrow we announce the loss of Lynn Rankin, our beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend.
Born in Winnipeg, Lynn grew up in Wolseley, as well as Neepawa and Brandon, Manitoba. As a young woman, she traveled the world as a flight attendant with Canadian Pacific Airlines before settling in Winnipeg to raise her two sons. A full-time parent with a creative mind, Lynn completed a degree in political science (BA 1986) at the University of Winnipeg before pursuing graduate studies in landscape architecture, working on multiple public and private landscape designs in Winnipeg, including the historic Steinkopf Gardens. She was an extremely devoted parent, an idealistic spirit, a loving soul who was committed to a compassionate vision of justice. Lynn was also an engaged cultural citizen, a long-time patron of the Winnipeg Art Gallery and Camerata Nova, and a dedicated advocate for the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. Her home garden was a site of deep personal expression and her family will cherish her memory wherever gardens flourish. She will be very deeply missed.
Lynn is survived her two sons, Scott Rankin (Toni Wu) and Matthew, sister Susan, brother Dan (Constance Macrae), many nieces and nephews and one very sweet cat, Finch. She is predeceased by former husband Laird Rankin, brother Scott, sister Jane and her parents Florence and Bill Buchanan.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Lynn Iris Buchanan Rankin 1944 2020..
