Taylor – Margaret Luella (née Helland)
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Margaret Luella Helland Taylor was taken from us on April 3, 2020. She lived a full 95 years. Born in 1925 in Cochrane, Alberta, her family moved to Lomond, Alberta where she was raised working hard on the family farm. She joined the army towards the end of World War Two. After the war ended, she met Robert Nelson Taylor (Bob), who was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. They married in 1947 and she became a proud mother of 3 children, Keith, Brenda, and Linda. After being a devoted mother and housewife for many years, Luella worked as a manager for Veteran’s Affairs. She eventually settled in North Gower where she was surrounded by some of her children and grandchildren. Luella and Bob had many great times together spent with family and friends, travelling in Canada, relaxing at their cottage, and camping. Sadly, she became a widow at the age of 59 and shortly thereafter lost her daughter Brenda as well. She then dedicated her life to being a part time mother to Brenda’s children, Kristine and Derek, to try to fill that void in their sweet young lives during their early years. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to 7 grandchildren and played a special role in each of their lives. She taught them all so much about life. She was the family’s matriarch and guided many with her selfless and caring ways. She would have done anything for anyone, that’s just the kind of person she was.
Luella had a special way with people and with animals, especially with her love of horses, dogs and cats. Our family would refer to her as the “animal whisperer” as the animals would always flock to her calm energy. In 2006, after helping a neighbour care for his dog, she was presented with the opportunity to adopt him, a little white toy poodle called Danny. Her devotion and love for Danny filled her life with joy and laughter. They were very well known and loved within her community of Manor Park and enjoyed their daily walks throughout the neighborhood. Danny and Luella were joined at the hip until his passing in 2019.
Luella was so special to many people and made a difference in so many of our lives. She was the most kind, loving, thoughtful, hard working person who always put the needs of others before her own. Her strong devotion to her family is carried on through all of her family members. She is survived by her son Keith (Linda), her daughter Linda (Scott), her 7 grandchildren Chris (Tammy), Jason, Tim, Dylan (Hilary), Nicole (Eric), Kristine (Lawrence) and Derek (Kendra), and her 10 great grandchildren Ashley (TJ, Hailey, Emma), Jarrett, Shane, Jessica, Audrey, Avangeline, Conan, Taylor, Marilyn and Everett.
She will be so greatly missed by her family and friends but we have peace knowing she will be reunited with her husband Bob, her daughter Brenda, and her beloved dog Danny. The care, compassion and insightfulness that she extended to those in her life will be cherished forever. We love you Luella, you were one of a kind who changed so many lives and will never be forgotten. Your memory lives on in everyone you touched.
An important part of Luella’s life was to donate to many charities. For those who so wish, donations can be made in Luella’s name to the charity of your choice or, a few of her chosen charities include The Canadian Cancer Society, The Canadian Diabetes Association, and Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
