Obituary of Lucille Langevin
LANGEVIN, Lucille
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marie Blanche Lucille
Langevin (née Morin), one day shy of her 97 birthday. Lucille was born on August 14th, 1923 at Cap Ste. Ignace, Quebec to Marie Yvonne Gamache and Charles Morin. She became the eldest child of a
family of six children when her older brother Albert, as well as a younger sister, Eliane died in
childhood of scarlet fever. Throughout her life, she was very loved by her younger siblings,
Yvette Hare, (deceased) Jean Morin and Thérese Charest.
After graduating from Normal School, Lucille taught for a year in a one-room schoolhouse near her home village. Shortly afterwards, she and her sister Yvette went to live with relatives in Montreal for a short period before joining the R.C.A.F. in Trenton around 1942. There she met the love of her life, Len Langevin, from Sulphide, Ontario. (d., 2016). They were married in 1945 and enjoyed seventy years together. During those years they lived in Sulphide, Ont., Trois Rivieres, Varennes and Longueuil Que., and finally for the last 32 years, in Kingston. They had six children, Muriel DuHamel (Joe), Pauline Langevin, Philip (d. 2019) (Jean McNeil), Jacqueline Thompson, Janet Clowery (Wayne) and Héléne Belsey (Bill). They had eleven grandchildren, Tavis, Jamie, Frank, Peter, Lia, Sarah, Gabriel, Sara, Shannon, Alex and Julia along with numerous great-grandchildren.
After being a stay at home mom for over twenty years, Lucille went back into the workforce eventually working for Statistics Canada for fifteen years. Lucille had many talents and hobbies. She was very creative with an eye for colour as well as the whimsical. She enjoyed golf, bridge and reading and she was an excellent seamstress, knitter and cook. Oh, how we all loved coming home for dinner. She painted, mostly in watercolours and she was an award-winning quilter.
Lucille will be fondly remembered for her positive attitude towards life, her engaging bubbly personality and sense of humour as well as for her straightforwardness and resiliency. Everyone was drawn to her and she had the ability to envelop them with her positive energy making them feel encouraged, loved and special. She was a wonderful role model for her children and grandchildren. We will always remember and greatly love our wonderful maman et grand-maman en or. The family would like to thank the staff on the Sydenham 4th floor of Providence Manor for their love and care of Lucille.
Cremation in the care of James Reid Crematorium. The family will gather privately in the Chapel of JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard for the Liturgy of the Word followed by the Rite of Committal with Prayers at St. Mary’s Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Easter Seals Ontario in Lucille’s memory.
