Louis Luigi Pilon

Obituary
PILON, Louis “Luigi”
January 7, 1933 – July 24, 2020
On July 24, 2020, Heaven welcomed Luigi Pilon to his eternal home. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Severina (nee Zuccato) Pilon.
Luigi, (the late son of Giovanni and Maria) was born in Torino, Italy in 1933. He is survived by his daughters Michelle (Joe Doucette, granddaughters Kelsey, Alyssa); Monique (Dennis Fraschetti, granddaughter Cynthia, grandson Bryan); sister Lidia (Domenic Zuccato, nephew Flavio, nieces Silvia Campagna, Lisa Carpenter); brother-in-law Guiliano Zuccato (deceased, daughter Marisa Bruhn, son Marc); cousin Angelo Pilon (Dasa Timkova, son Massimo Luigi), Italy. He is survived by many relatives and friends in Italy, USA, and Argentina.
In his youth, Luigi enjoyed spending his summer vacations in the mountains, and in Arsie, earning him the nickname The Dolomite Kid later on in life. At an early age, his love for music was evident through his participation in a boy’s church choir. He had a beautiful voice and continued singing throughout his day to day life. He was fond of all genres of music, especially jazz. Having seen Louis Armstrong perform and taking his sister to the theatre were a few of his fondest memories. A cultured man, he loved to learn new things and stay current. He also spoke French, and in his 50s, studied Spanish with great enthusiasm. He was the top of his class. He was an English/Italian court room translator. An avid reader, he loved mystery novels and science-fiction. He was knowledgeable about History and loved to recount his war-time stories to the younger generation. Luigi was a wine aficionado. He enjoyed sharing his appreciation for the finer and simpler things in life with his family and friends. He was often described by them as a Renaissance man.
Before immigrating to Canada in 1956, he studied Chemistry and Accounting. Upon his arrival, he worked in construction as a brick layer, and went on to become the Secretary Treasurer of the Brick Layers’ Union. He appreciated architecture and drafted blueprints for various buildings in the city. On the side, he assisted his dear friend, Alfio Golini, as a radio host of The Alfio Golini Show from 1957-1967. In 1961, he joined the Caboto Club and became Manager in 1964, a position he held for five years. He was also its Secretary Treasurer from 1971-1974. In addition to these activities, Luigi was the secretary of the Es County All Nations Association. In 1962, he opened his own business, Minerva Bookkeeping Service, and diligently serviced his clients from 1962-2006.
Luigi was a devoted, loving and generous husband, father, and grandfather. Always a fine gentleman, selfless, principled, and imbued with integrity. He enjoyed travelling with his wife and family, photography, fishing, and hunting. Above all, Luigi loved his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, his daughters the apple of his eye, and his wife, the love of his life.
