Lorne Murray “Dutch” Cavanagh Sr.
1924-2019
Lorne Murray “Dutch” Cavanagh Sr.
– 95, of Wolfville, passed away Friday, December 27, 2019 in
the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Halifax, he was a son
of the late Harry and Martha (Brown) Cavanagh. He was a veteran of the
Second World War. Since 1954, he had been employed as a plumber and
oil burner technician in the family business, H. A. Cavanagh and Sons
Limited, which he acquired in 1978. Dutch was a well-known valley
hockey player and held several scoring records within the Valley
League. He was a former member and veteran of the Wolfville Volunteer
Fire Department. He is survived by a daughter, Beverley Ann (Greg)
Cavanagh-Pick, New Minas; a son, Lorne Jr.
“Dutchie”, Wolfville; two grandchildren, Halee
(Mike) and Lindsey; two great grandchildren, DeKarie and Akilah; many
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel Josephine
(Rogers); a sister, Hilda Leighton; five brothers, Cyril, Edward,
Victor, Clarence and Kenneth. Cremation has taken place. There will be
no visitation, by request. A celebration of Dutch’s life
will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2020 in the White Family
Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place in St.
John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in
memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, Annapolis Valley
VON, any Valley Junior Hockey Association or to a charity of your
choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family
Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
