Lois Isobel Hope (née Brown), passed away following a brief illness on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, age 92.
Born December 29, 1927 in Los Angeles to H. Harvey Brown and Jane Isobel (McAdam) both of Ottawa. Raised in Ottawa South in the home of her cherished Aunt, Ena (McAdam) McDonald and Dr. Angus McDonald. Lois attended Andrew’s School for Girls in Willoughby, Ohio, and later worked as a dietician at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto and the Department of Agriculture in Ottawa.
Married to Alexander A. Hope in 1956, they raised daughters, Catherine (Peter Fournier), Jane (Paul Lavoie) and Margaret, to be as independent and resourceful as they were. Alex succumbed to cancer in 1985. Lois became a palliative caregiver and eventually President of the Auxiliary at Riverside Hospital during which time she met and married widower, A. Munro Allen in 1989. The happy marriage was cut short when Munro succumbed to cancer in 1995.
Sharp as a whip until her final days, Lois leaves numerous friends and colleagues gathered during her lifelong involvement in groups dedicated to cooking, needlework, reading, writing, Toastmasters, the National Gallery and at St. Timothy’s Presbyterian Church. Lois was a source of endless tales for her grandchildren: Andrew (Roseanne Salvidar), Faustina (John Konkal), Sarah (Adam Hassen), Matthew (Ilaria Boldrini), Jonathon (Amanda Campbell), and Robert – her devoted end-of-life companion and caregiver – and great grandchildren: Gabriella, Judith, Helen, and Alex Fournier; Rachel, Samuel and Nicolas Konkal; Sofia Hassen; and David, Elizabeth and Rebecca Fournier.
A tribute will be held for immediate family. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2021. Details will be communicated closer to the date.
In lieu of flowers, please honour Lois’ legacy by investing in continuous learning and self-discovery.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Lois Isobel Hope Brown Tuesday December 22nd 2020..
