Lloyd’s Obituary
Passed peacefully away on Friday, October 9, 2020 at The James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Mr. Henry Lloyd Russell, age 83.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell and Bessie Russell; brother, Jerry; parents-in-law, Ralph and Gertie Colborne; brother-in-law, Eric Colbourne and beloved pets Limey, Jingles and Blue.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Joan (Colborne); sister, Shirley (Jim Maye); brother-in-law, Harry (Daisy) Colborne; sister-in-law, Betty Colbourne and a wide circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
Lloyd’s career was with the Newfoundland Wildlife Management Program, a job he thoroughly enjoyed for 36 years. During this time he spent numerous hours flying in helicopter and planes completing moose and caribou population surveys. Lloyd also worked with the caribou transplant program to send caribou populations to Maine, USA. He often joked about suriving two engine failures and losing 25lbs raising caribou calves one summer on the salmonair line as the calves were fed better then he was!
In light of the current coronavirus pandemic, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. The funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, on October 13, for invited guests only.
As expression of Sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Matthew’s United Church Cemetery Fund or Gander SPCA will be gratefully accepted.
