Blake, Lionel (Tim) – After almost three years of advanced prostate cancer Tim, aged 84, passed away peacefully with the help of an assisted death on Friday, February 7th, surrounded by his son and caring friends. Predeceased by his wife Agnes (Nancy), Tim leaves behind his children Kirsten and Martin; his sister Jill; brothers-in-law Tom and David with his wife Pam; grandsons Adam and Eric with his husband Brad; along with a large extended family in England. Born in England, Tim visited Canada as a youth on the English Shooting Team and fell in love with the country. After serving in the UK Army for his National Service, he returned to Canada and graduated from McGill University. Tim met his beloved Nancy on Feb 15th, 1964, marrying May 9th that same year. Starting his work career at Courtaulds (UK), and working there throughout his career, Tim and Nancy embraced an opportunity to move their young family to Courtaulds Canada in 1974. Tim loved being a father and grandfather and summers spent with Grandson’s Adam and Eric were especially joyful for Grandma and Papa. Tim had a passion for volunteering, and it became a cornerstone of his life. He gave his time to many organizations and programs including being one of the founding members of the SD&G Science Fair, and then volunteering over the last few years with Adult Literacy. Tim had an unquenchable thirst for science, astronomy and history to name a few. If you had a thought about quantum physics, he was your man. He was almost genuinely surprised when others didn’t share his curiosity. However, he would happily put his constant learning on hold to listen to classical music or some favourite poetry. Tim loved being active. He and Nancy loved the outdoors, anything from walking their beloved dogs Mitzi, Penny or Benji, skiing or spending hours and hours on their sailboat. Tim and Nancy enjoyed travelling throughout North America and Europe, visiting exciting new places and experiencing the local scene. Throughout his life Tim was very fortunate to have so many wonderful friends. One of Tim and Nancy’s favourite friendships was with John and Davina Reid; their time together included annual vacations to Christmas Mountain, countless meals out and nights playing games. Their support for Tim during the last three years was remarkable and is so appreciated. After Nancy’s death Tim was very lucky to find a truly special friend in Terry Wilson and they had many wonderful times together, along with her two dogs. Terry was a shining light in Tim’s later years and a true blessing. Her support for him throughout his disease was unwavering. Tim was a loving man who will be missed by all. If so desired, contributions in his memory to Cornwall Hospice would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall.
