Obituary
Our loving sister passed away peacefully at Trillium Lodge in Parksville on March 21, 2020. Linda will be remembered for her kind and gentle ways. Her quick wit and sweetness endeared her to everyone she met. Linda was predeceased by her parents and brother Curtis. She leaves to mourn her passing, brother George, sisters Patricia, Shirley, Carol, Sarah and Theresa.
Her family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks for the excellent care and friendship given to Linda by the staff at Trillium Lodge during her two year stay. A Memorial Service and Reception will be announced after the COVED19 has passed and we return to some normalcy.
LINDA’S STORY –
Born in Cold Lake, Alberta to Lily and George Munson, she was the fifth born of eight children. When she was the tender age of three the family pulled up roots from Cold Lake and headed West to B.C. where her father was able to get work in the logging industry. During the next few years her father followed the work in a number of small communities in northern B.C., Burns Lake, Pinket Lake, Decker Lake, Binta Lake, (where the family lived on a houseboat), to Houston, and finally to Terrace where she lived for most of her school days, graduating from Skeena High at age 18. She couldn’t wait to get to Vancouver, the big city, and booked a flight three days after her grad ceremony.
Linda soon left for a tour of Europe and spent a year at an Airbase in Germany, staying with her cousin Maizie and family, who were in the military. She told some good stories of hitchhiking around Europe, which was not uncommon in those days. After returning to Vancouver from that trip, she worked at Finning Tractor for several years before opening a successful Art Gallery and Framing business with her sister Sarah in North Vancouver. She moved to Vancouver Island and re-trained as a special needs Care Aid, working in group homes and also worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for the Nanaimo School Board for mentally handicapped children. After 25 years of this work she retired in 2009.
Over the years, Linda loved to travel and took many trips: California, Mexico, Hawaii, and Greece. She had a fun adventure across Canada to Nova Scotia with her good friend Barb. She went to France with her art class and did several amazing pictures on the streets of Paris, a traveler extraordinary! She had many creative talents including weaving, starting from carding and spinning the wool, to making many beautiful items as well as clothing. She belonged to an acappela choir, played the flute and loved to sing. She was very outgoing and had many friends with her easygoing manner and big smile. She was also many nieces’ “best Aunty” and always happy to have them stay whenever they could. She left us a legacy of a very wonderful human being, always very generous and caring with everyone she knew. We’ll miss her loving presence in our lives.
