Also left to mourn are her brothers Wilmar (Marj) Johnson; Lorne (Helen) Johnson; Audrie Johnson and their families. Lil was predeceased by her parents; husband, Morley; son, Duane; brother, Victor.
Lil was born November 28, 1933 in Wynyard, Saskatchewan to Gunnar and Laura Johnson. She was known as the “Johnson First Lady” as she was the first Johnson female to be born in Canada. Lil spent her younger years in Wynyard. Following high school graduation she moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to attend Success Business College and work at Traders. Lil carried her love of reading, strong business knowledge and fierce sense of independence with her throughout her life. Lil met Morley in 1954 on a blind date. It obviously went well as they were married in Wynyard on October 22, 1955.
Morley and Lil spent the first few years of married life between Regina and Wynyard eventually moving to Killarney, Morley’s home town, in 1960. Lil spent those years as a mother, wife and housewife. In 1979 Lil returned to the workforce in a number of different office positions around Killarney until she started at Lakeland Regional Library. Lil’s love of reading and business knowledge were an ideal match to the Library setting. She continued to work there as Head Librarian until her retirement in 1997. In addition to her family and work, Lil developed many lifelong friendships and enjoyed activities such as curling, shuffle and quilting. In later life, Lil continued to enjoy gardening, baking (especially the eating part), quilting and crocheting.
Thank you to Wenda from Senior Services and palliative and home care nurses Brenda, Christine, Jaret, Jayme and Nancy. Your support and presence allowed for us to keep mom at home where she was most comfortable.
