Obituary of Leslie Dala French
1955 – 2020
Leslie passed away on August 27, 2020 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, B.C., with her husband Gerry at her side.
Leslie was born on May 17, 1955 in Scarborough, Ontario to Ernie and Margaret Carrie. She was the fourth of five children. At a young age her family moved, first to Calgary, AB and then, at the age of ten, she and her family landed in the Edgemont Village neighborhood of North Vancouver, B.C. She lived in this area into adulthood.
At the age of 22, while working as a ‘Girl Friday’ at Underwriters Adjustment Bureau in 1978, she met Gerry French, who became the love of her life. They married at West Vancouver Baptist Church on January 20, 1979. The highlight of her working life was her job as assistant to the director of finance for Expo 86 in Vancouver. In 1988 Gerry and Leslie journeyed to Norway where they were with Youth With A Mission (“YWAM”), a Christian outreach ministry. Leslie saw those months as among the best of her life.
Leslie will forever be remembered for her infectious smile, her generosity of spirit and for the grace and dignity with which she faced the last six years of her life, as she fought her final battle with breast cancer. Our comfort is that she is now in the presence of her Lord and Saviour, freed from the bonds of this life.
She is survived by her husband Gerry and her older sisters Shirley and Roslyn and younger brother Roger.
Leslie was predeceased by her parents and older brother Russell.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Leslie at The Dwelling Place church at 2 pm on Friday, September 11, 2020.
Gerry extends his deepest thanks to the medical professionals and friends who helped to make her final years a fruitful experience.
