Leslie “Les”‘s Obituary
Leslie Elliott Bezanson ~ Kingston, NS
Les passed away on February 15, 2020 after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Supported by the loving care and prayers of family, friends and his medical team he exceeded the prognosis for his disease and was able to die at home, as he wanted to do.
He was born January 24th, 1948 to the late Leslie and Phyllis (Davidson) Bezanson. He joined the military at a young age and did tours in Germany and Israel, retiring after thirteen years. Les was a member of the Kingston District Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was also a member of the Aylesford Baptist Church where he served as trustee, usher, teller and led several Alpha groups and Bible studies.
Les had an active sense of humour and teased the VON nurse the night before he died. When he was around, you knew he was there. Les was always ready to give a helping hand and was a sort of Mr. Fixit on the street.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty (Barkhouse) Bezanson, their daughters Cynthia MacDonald, Morristown, Kerri Sholtz, Elliot Lake, Ontario, Susanne (Derek) Bouwman, Lockhartville and April (Terry) McAlear, Kingston, son-in-law Paul Sholtz. He is also survived by grandchildren Greg Sholtz (Regan Lee), Sondra Sholtz (Frank Cabral), Isabelle Bouwman (Jordan Robb), Rachael (Micah) Timmermans, Martinus Bouwman, Brady McAlear, Kelly Bouwman and Taylor McAlear. Also surviving are great-granddaughter, Sophia and another to be born in March.
He is survived by his siblings Orlean (Charlie) Sketchley, Mary Lou Hudson, Grace Garcia, Patricia Wirven, Cheryl (Terry) Stewart and Charlie (Karen) Davidson. He is also survived by Betty’s family, Mary (Frank) Mitchell, Mark Sharkoff, Barbara Barkhouse, Pat (Jack) Snoyer, many nieces and nephews from both families.
Les was predeceased by his parents, son Nicklaus, sisters Della Baker, Bernice Dunlop, Bonnie McKie, brother Jackson Bezanson, sister-in-law Genevieve Sharkoff and brother-in-law Peter Barkhouse.
The family wants to thank the medical team who took such good care of Les, Dr. Kevin McGuire, the Annapolis Palliative Care team, Annapolis Valley VON, Peter and the staff at Superstore Pharmacy, the EHS responders and the homemakers who were so good to him.
Cremation has taken place. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Carey Me Fund, the Annapolis Valley VON or Kingston District Volunteer Fire Department.
There will be visitation from 6-8 PM Tuesday, February 18th in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448.
