Les Mack
The family of Les Mack is deeply saddened to announce his passing on January 18, 2020 following a brief illness.
Les was born on February 5, 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta and grew-up in the north-east of the city where he attended Eastglen High School. Les’ parents were dedicated members of the Salvation Army and the whole family played in the band on street corners around the city. Music went on to be an important part of Les’ life; he played his trumpet and violin with pride.
In 1957 Les enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Aeroengine Technician. He was stationed at RCAF Station Gimli with 419 Squadron. After returning to Edmonton, Les worked at the Edmonton Flying Club and then joined Wardair where he became Chief Inspector. His career in aviation took him around the world and gave him a lifetime of stories. Les moved to Portage la Prairie in 1992 where he worked as Manager of Field Aviation until his retirement. He married Wendy Lepine in 2002.
Les was predeceased by daughters Jennifer Mack-Matthews and Jeanette Brinkman, his parents Henry and Doris Mack, his brother Don Mack and sister Evelyn Sutherland.
Les is survived by his wife Wendy, daughters Yvonne and Heather Mack, son Barry Ergang, grandchildren Lane and Jillian Mack, Nicole Lavoie, Megan Glover, Erin and Jordan Brinkman, Isabelle and Stephanie Matthews, great-grandchildren and ex-wife Janie Mack. He is also mourned by his sister Lorna Robinson, stepchildren Jason Lepine, Candice Lepine (Deni Perchak), Gary Lepine, Ray and Joann Lepine and numerous step grand children.
Grief is the price we pay for love.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 27th at 1:30 p.m. at the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Rd. S., Portage la Prairie officiated by Major Brenda Hammond. A private family interment to follow at a later date.
