Leroy’s Obituary
MADDEN, Leroy Emerson – 95, of East Baccaro, passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord on November 17, 2020 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Leroy was born on April 16, 1925 in West Baccaro; he was the eldest son of the late Lawson Esma and Vivian Leona (O’Connell) Madden. At the age of 10, Leroy worked on his uncle’s farm in Port Maitland after which he went to Dartmouth to work in the shipyards. Upon returning home, he worked in several grocery stores in the area, the last being Wilson’s IGA in Barrington Passage, where he could be seen doing a little tap dance for the customers. His last occupation, before retiring, was a school bus driver for Barrington Municipal High School. Leroy loved to play guitar and sing in the local church that he attended. His favorite recreation was skating and at the age of 82 he was still lacing up his skates at the local arena in Barrington. He is survived by his wife, Avis (Chetwynd); daughter, Janet (Larry) Pelletier; sons, Andrew (Stacey) Madden, Robert Madden and Keith (Sherry Chetwynd) Madden; grandchildren, Aaron Pelletier, Andrea (Pelletier) Alexander, Keith Madden, Chandelle Madden, Courtney Madden and three step grandchildren, Lewis Chetwynd, Tracey Brannen and Alexander Goreham; six great grandchildren; as well as, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Leroy was predeceased by his siblings, Edna Faye Garron, Iona Gertrude Chetwynd, John Austin Madden and Elmer Weldon Madden. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 20, from 7-9 pm at the H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Funeral Home, Barrington. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 21, at 2:00 pm from the H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington. Due to Covid-19 restriction, seating may be limited and social distancing guidelines must be followed (Immediate family will be given priority for seating). Due to limited seating the service will be live feed the day of the service on the Huskilson’s Funeral Homes Facebook site. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of your choice.
