DOUCET, Leonard Joseph – age 86, Hubbard’s Point, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2020 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born August 9, 1933 in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late John L. “Grand Johnny” and M. Cécile (Doucet) Doucet. Leonard worked in the scallop fishery as a captain, mate, and retired as an engineer. In his younger years, he also worked in the nickel mines in Sudbury, as a cook in Goose Bay and in skyscraper construction in Toronto. Although he enjoyed playing cards, visiting friends and family and especially teasing, he loved time spent with family, especially his grandchildren, Candice and Jenna Doucet, Jacob and Nathan Bourque; Erik, Jillian and Joel Doucet; Crystal Porter and Ireland Boylan; Whitney and Logan Doucet; Lacey Doucette and Aimy Doucet; Joshua Muise and Tiffany Pottier; Laura and Kristen Trefry and Zach Surette along with his 17 great grandchildren and his great-great granddaughter. Leonard also had a deep faith and was a member of the Yarmouth Wesleyan Church. He is survived by his loving children, Glen Doucet (Lisa Bourque), Brazil Lake; Curtis (Sharon) Doucet, Ronald Doucet and John (Sandra) Doucet, all of Wedgeport; Kim (Maurice) Muise, Surette’s Island; Emily Doucet, Hubbard’s Point; Ray Surette (Cheryl Doucet-Surette) Glenwood. Along with Janice Amirault, Qatar, Bridgewater. Also surviving is a sister, Sandra (Edgar) Amirault; a brother-in-law, John Pauzé, and sisters-in-law Madelaine (Charles Doucet) Wedgeport and Blanche (Francis Doucet) Pubnico. Aside from his parents, Leonard was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne (Cornu-Surette) Doucet; a son, Drake Doucet; a daughter, Cheryl Doucet-Surette; grandchildren, Ashley Doucet and Logan Bourque; a great-grandson, Mason McComiskey as well as by brothers and sisters, Rita (Jean-Marc) LaPointe, Bernice (Paul) Theriault, Charles (Madelaine) Doucet, Francis (Blanche) Doucet, Irene Pauzé and by Charlie and Mildred, both in infancy. A graveside service and interment for Leonard will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Surette’s Island.
