Obituary
Leona Evelyn Wilson
March 18, 1930 – November 11, 2020
Leona passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in the early morning of November 11. She will be lovingly remembered by her children; daughter Barb (Philip) Robinson of Saskatoon and their children Andrew and David (Jody) Robinson; son Roy (Alana) Wilson of Invermere, son Mark (Elizabeth) Cheng of Vancouver and their children Nathan and Kiera, son Dave (Sherrie) Wilson of Courtney, BC and their children Damon and Ashley. Leona is also survived by sisters Merna Knudson, Arlene MacDonald, Leila Cassie, Lynn Abrams, sister-in-law Ruth Knudson and brother Eldon Knudson as well as many nieces and nephews.
Leona was predeceased by her husband Jim, her parents Harold and Viola, her brothers Orville and Alvin, her sister Orla and her husband Orval Stutt, brother-in-law Doug Cassie, mother and father-in-law Will and Stella and step mother-law Iris Wilson.
Leona was born in Eden, Manitoba and raised in Neepawa. After completing high school she worked as a telephone operator. It wasn’t long until she met the love of her life. Leona married Jim in June of 1952. Together they farmed in the Killarney area while raising four children. A large garden and farm life in general made for a busy time.
After moving to BC in 1977 mom enjoyed the more creative side of her personality. She gave ceramic classes and enjoyed the life of a florist. Later with help she cared for seniors in their home.
Through the years they found time to do some travelling. They travelled to the US many times and Hawaii was a favourite. Visiting family included Sweden, Finland and Hong Kong. Other destinations included Korea, China, England, Ireland and Scotland. The world became a smaller place as friendships developed in these places.
They lived in several places in BC but settled on Vancouver Island in the Courtney area. Retired life, special friends and wonderful neighbours made it an ideal place.
Failing health brought Jim and Leona to Saskatoon. They cheerfully embraced the future in spite of leaving many dear friends behind. Mom enjoyed 2 1/2 years of living in the country, picking berries, tending flowers and many sunny scooter rides around the local loop.
Mom will be remembered for her thoughtfulness of others, her deep faith and love for her family.
We will miss our sweet granny.
The family would like to give a very big thank-you to the Palliative Home Care nurses. The support they provided will always be appreciated.
The Funeral Service for Leona will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2020 with live-streaming available at: www.faithproductions.ca/livestream
