Leo Clermont
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leo Clermont of Killarney, MB on January 1, 2020 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 84 years.
Leo is survived by his children, Joanne (Peter) Cohoe, Dianne DeMeuleneire and Wayne (Lucie) Clermont; his grandchildren, Dylan (Robin) Cohoe, Courtney (Glen) Charette, Lindsey (Shane) Riglin, Justin DeMeuleneire (Nadia Campbell), Maple Clermont, Hudson Clermont, Logan Clermont and Mackenzie Clermont; his great-grandchildren, Pierce, Autumn, Chase and Brooks. He also leaves to mourn his siblings, Emile Clermont, Jeannie (Frank) Currans, Charles (Sharon) Clermont and Ellen Clermont; his inlaws, Simonne (Lucien) Hacault, Rene (Lorraine) Dousselaere and Jerry (Patsy) Dousselaere; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is predeceased by his wife Yvonne (née Dousselaere) in 2005; his brother Rene, his grandchildren, Ashleigh Cohoe and Brendan Cohoe; and by his great-granddaughter Scarlett Charette.
Leo was born in Trochu Alberta, second oldest in a French speaking farm family. He learned English when he started school. The family moved to Mather in his late teens, and when they pulled up roots to move to the USA in his early 20’s, he stayed behind to marry the love of his life, Yvonne, in 1958. They first farmed near Cartwright until 1966 when they bought the farm near Greenway where they raised their family. In 2006 he moved to Pleasant Valley to enjoy lake area. In 2013 he moved to Killarney where he lived in his condominium till his final days.
Leo was a farmer for most of his life. He loved farming and enjoyed being his own boss. After retirement he worked part time as a hired hand, gradually shifting into retired life, spending quite a few winters in Mesa, Arizona and a becoming a regular at coffee in Killarney. Leo was a social butterfly, attending lots of events in town. He kept in contact with a wide network of family and friends by telephone. He loved his grandchildren and lately his great grandkids and always had a Kit Kat bar for them when he visited. At home his passions were country music and TV, watching the news, weather channel, sports, WWE Wrestling and good Western movies.
Funeral Services will be held in the Our Lady of Assumption Church in Mariapolis, MB on Thursday January 9, 2020. Memorial Service at 1:30, Funeral Mass at 2pm. followed by interment in the Mariapolis Parish Cemetery.
