In Loving Memory Of
Leo Albert Letemplier
Leo Letemplier, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Blanc-Sablon, QC, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, at the age of 79 years.
Leo was born on April 21, 1941 in Blanc-Sablon, QC. His parents, Albert and Mary Letemplier, raised Leo and his three brothers and eight sisters there.
Leo worked as a fisherman most of his life and was always at ease on the water; he loved the lifestyle and the work. He also loved the land, outdoors and hunting. It was not only a hobby, but a necessity to survive. His stories of fishing and hunting will live on with his family forever.
Leo met the love of his life, Antoinette, and they were married in 1970. They welcomed three children into their family Corey, Colleen and Byron. Leo continued to fish for a living, and he and Antoinette raised the kids in Blanc-Sablon. In 1995, they had to make a life changing decision to move out west as the fisheries had closed and the economy was weak. Corey and Colleen had already moved to Grande Prairie with other family. Antoinette kept telling Leo that they were going to Alberta and that was the only way he was going to leave home.
Leo worked alongside Corey as a carpenter’s helper, and later on was hired by the City of Grande Prairie, where he made many friends. He retired in 2008.
Antoinette passed away in 2006 and Leo was heartbroken, his partner, lover and friend was gone. He wanted to stay in Grande Prairie to be with his kids and grandkids.
Through the years of retirement, Leo was able to travel back to Blanc-Sablon to see his siblings. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and just going into the bush to get a load of birch. He would sit by his wood stove and listen to his favorite Newfie music or watch his favorite TV show “Land & Sea”. Leo always loved a good laugh and sharing stories with friends and family. Another favourite hobby of his was playing the accordion, music was a big part of his life.
Leo is survived by his children: Corey (Marianne) Letemplier, Colleen (Tom) Martineau, Byron Letemplier; grandchildren: Jeremy, Chelsey and Dylan Martineau, and Addison and Mason Letemplier; brother Cecil; sisters: Sylvia, Genieve, Gloria and Odette.
Leo was predeceased by his wife Antoinette, parents Albert and Mary, brothers Patrick and Clifford, sisters: Ruby, Margret, Annette and Christine.
