1947-2020
Layton Willard Cavanaugh – 73, North
River, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 15, 2020,
at The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son
of the late Harry and Lottie (McNutt) Cavanaugh.
Layton was a mechanic for many years with Central Freight
Lines, Classic Freight Lines and Nova Enterprises. He loved his family
and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great
granddaughter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at the
camp “on the mountain”.
Layton is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margie
(MacQuarrie); children, Shannon (Dave) Smith, North River; Paula
(Jack) Reid, Greenfield; Trevor Cavanaugh (Karen Dillman), Upper
Brookside; Lana Cavanaugh (Bruce Kelly), Greenfield; Delta Cavanaugh,
Truro; grandchildren, Brittany Reid (Travis Davis), Brianna (Brandon)
Kernick, Tyler Cavanaugh, Kristen Cavanaugh, Christopher Smith, Abbey
Bryden; great granddaughter, River Kernick; sisters, Florence (Wayne)
Smith, North River; Marilyn Gilby, Truro; Dora Walker, Truro;
brothers, Dean (Agnes) Cavanaugh, North River; sisters-in-law, Colleen
Patton, North River; Claudia Cavanaugh, Truro; brother-in-law, Donald
Reid, Truro; many several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents,
he was predeceased by his sisters, Hazel in infancy, Gail Reid;
brothers, Larry Cavanaugh, Leonard Cavanaugh, Delmar
Cavanaugh.

care and concern and to the staff of The Mira Long Term Care Facility
for their exceptional care.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Layton’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, December 19,
2020. (Please use the front doors of the funeral home, wear face masks
and practice physical distancing.) Private funeral service will be
held on Sunday, December 20, 2020; webcasting of the funeral
