Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Herb Heinze
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lawrence “Larry” Heinze on July 19, 2020 at home in West Kelowna, BC surrounded by family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Lawrence was born on September 16, 1945 to Polly (Skowronski) and August Heinze in Wadena Union Hospital in Wadena Saskatchewan.
After attending Wolverton School near the Rosebud District northeast of Wadena, he attended Wadena Composite High School followed by Civil Engineering Technology at Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw.
His entire career was with the Water Survey of Canada, Environment Canada in Saskatoon and Regina. His early career was conducting water quantity surveys throughout Saskatchewan followed by operating in interprovincial and international waters of eastern Saskatchewan. This was followed by the Head of Data Control for Saskatchewan. This involved developing and maintaining National Standards for collecting and computing and publishing water quantity data. In the latter part of his career, he worked on and led projects to modernize computation processes as well as developing an updated database of water quality data.
On August 05, 1972 he married Linda Kopelchuk in St. Andrews United Church in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
Larry and Linda built a house in 1974-75 in White City, Saskatchewan. They remained there for 41 years until they moved to West Kelowna in 2016. While living in Saskatchewan, they experienced 3 tornados in different years.
Larry and his wife, Linda, would always take a two-week spring fishing trip, sometimes to the end of the road in the earlier years. Later years were spent at Weyakwin Lake. It was much easier staying in the comforts of a cottage!
Larry and Linda enjoyed travelling to many parts of the world, but especially in the European countries such as France, Italy, and Germany and in many other warm parts of the world. They spent many winter seasons in the Sun City area of Phoenix.
Larry enjoyed cooking, especially French, Italian, and German, as well as all types of seafood and meat. His wife is always the perfect sous-chef when a meal was made. Other ethnic foods such as Ukrainian and Norwegian dishes were also part of the cooking.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Linda (Kopelchuk) of West Kelowna; sisters Mary Blogowsky, Eunice (Ron) Coghill; brother Duane (Violet) Heinze; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Winnie and Morris Zatwarnitski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Polly and August Heinze brother Henry Heinze; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Walter Blogowsky, Philip and Vina (Lisoway) Kopelchuk, Rosaline (Kopelchuk) and Alex Warcholik; and nephews Gerald Blogowsky, and Dexter & Daryl Kopelchuk.
At his request there will be no funeral service. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations are gratefully accepted to a charity of your choice.
