Obituary for
Larry Eugene Miskey
It is with deep sadness we announce that Larry Eugene Miskey passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, while recovering from emergency surgery for a hip fracture. He was 68 years old. He is survived by his father, Harry; siblings, Robert (Anne) Miskey, Shirley (Kurt) Paterson, and Neil (Dianne) Miskey; as well as five nephews and one niece. Predeceased by his mother, May Agnes Miskey (née Ozubko). Born in Mundare, shortly thereafter Larry moved with his family to Edmonton, where he pursued both a scholarly and musical education, receiving his RCM Grade 10 piano certificate, and playing timpani in the Edmonton Separate School Band. He attended the University of Alberta where he received his LL.B. degree, and began a law practice. His career was cut short by the onset of schizophrenia. Larry was talented, intelligent, articulate and kind, interested in other people, enjoyed conversation, history, reading and playing piano, among other interests. Except for his childhood and short periods as an adult most of his fine qualities and abilities were hidden and denied to him by the severe mental disorder he lived and suffered with for the majority of his life. Occasionally one could glimpse his intelligence and engaging true personality through the disease. He was lovingly and faithfully cared for by his parents, and later, by his sister, Shirley and brother-in-law, Kurt. The family thanks them for their untiring devotion to him. Also special thanks to healthcare professionals Candace B., Bob H., staff on UAH 3F3, Dr. G. Blais, Dr. G. Mowat, and the caring staff at Whitemud Lifestyle Options.
We miss Larry and remember him always with love.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, private funeral is by invitation only.
