Gunter Weinheimer, in his 87th year, passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2020 surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Oberheimbach, Germany – Gunter is survived by his true love and best friend Inge with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Sadly missed by son Michael and family (Amanda, Dillon and Natalie) and son Mario and family (Nathan, Marcus)
.
Gunter immigrated to Canada in 1954, working for many years at FAG Bearings before leaving in the 70’s to focus on his career as an innkeeper. He and Inge founded the Suburban Motel in Stratford in 1963 and owned and operated it until their retirement in 1997. Although the early years and the last years of their lives were very difficult – in between they managed a wonderful life. Travel, family and gardening were his passions. Gunter worked very hard his entire life but was never too busy to stop and have a chat and a laugh with anyone he crossed paths with. Everywhere he had roots – he planted things. Trees, shrubs, flowers – which are still here to mark his presence. Gunter was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Church. Special thanks to care workers Lorie, Mallory and Jodi for their kindness and compassion and to Father Chris Pietraszko.
Cremation has taken place and a private service and internment will take place at a later date.
Gunter loved planting and watching things grow. If you would like to make a donation in Gunter’s memory, please consider the “Plant A Tree” program on this website.
