It is with deep sorrow that the family of the late Kenneth Silas Bellows of Sydney River, announce his passing at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Wentworth Court with his son Scott at his side on Tuesday April 7, 2020 at the age of 74.
Born in Frenchman’s Cove, Bay of Islands NL. Ken was the son of the late Wilfred and Annie Bellows from Mt.Moriah, NL. Ken graduated from the RCMP training academy, Alberta in 1968.His first posting was New Glasgow, NS. Other postings followed in Newfoundland and Labrador. His last posting was in Sydney where he retired in 1988.
Ken was always known for his infectious smile, generous heart and quick witted humour. His likes included daily trips to the former Days Inn Gym and enjoyed being anywhere on the water. Family was everything to Ken being a loving father and proud grandfather. Over his lifetime he has had to overcome life threatening health issues and injuries. To say that he beat the odds with such injuries sustained would be an understatement and that is why Ken’s strength and determination in life will always be admired. Many people have referred to him as the cat with 9 lives. Ken volunteered with the Law Enforcement Torch Relay along with the Special Olympics Swimming Program and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cape Breton County.
He is survived by his three children: Lisa Bellows, Sydney, Lynn (Kramer) Levatte, Sydney River, Scott(Karen) Bellows, East Bay and grandchildren: Mary, Elizabeth, Charles and Daniel Levatte, Braxton Jessome, Silas and Zeph Bellows. Brothers: Don (Geraldine), Harley (Carol),Harvey, Dave (Paulette), Wayne (Olga), Dexter (Mary), Glen (Bernadette), Byron(Hilda), Raymond (Donna). Sisters: Linda, Jean (Alfred), Luella (Ignatius), Hazel (Ken), Debbie, Sharon (David).Sister in law Helen Bellows, special cousin Luella Sheehan and special friend Martha MacIsaac. Ken is also survived by his many loving in-laws; Jimmy(Allish), Kevin, Jane (Dick), Rita (Blair), Mar-Lynn (Peter), Karen (Patrick).Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Ken was predeceased by his wife Marjorie Bellows (2001), brother Ben Bellows, brother-in-law Cecil O’dell, Richard Montague and nephew Mark Bellows. Also brother-in-law Russel Jr. (Bubby) Kennedy, sister-in-law Anna Mae Kennedy in infancy, mother-in-law Violet Kennedy and father-in-law Russel Kennedy.
The Bellows family would like to extend a special thank you to Harbourstone Enhanced Care especially the nurses and staff of Wentworth Court. Also special thanks to Dr. Steven MacDougall and staff at the QEII Heart Transplant Unit who had provided exceptional care during his time there. Ken will be deeply missed by his loving family and many wonderful friends. God may have you in Heaven but we will always have you in our hearts.
A Private memorial service will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel funeral home in Sydney, NS with interment to follow at a later date.
Due to the current worldwide pandemic a celebration of Ken’s life and memorial service will be announced at a later date.
