On September 23, 2020 Kenneth Charles Nixon of Edmonton passed away at the age of 98 years. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Edith. They were married for 72 years prior to her passing. He was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Madonna.
He will be lovingly remembered by his sons: Keith (Janette), Timothy, Gregory (Muk), Brent (Anne Marie) and Chris (Anita). He will also be dearly missed by his 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
Kenneth, usually know as Ken, was born in Saskatchewan to homesteaders, William and Martha Nixon. Ken was the second youngest of 5 children all of whom are now deceased.
When Ken was 19 years old he enlisted to help in the World War II efforts and served with the RCAF as a radar technician from 1941 to 1945. After the war he had various jobs (Nix’s and Loveseth’s) before going back to school and becoming a Teacher. Ken taught with the Edmonton Separate School board for more than 25 years. Ken belonged to St. Pius X Roman Catholic church for more than 50 years until the parishioners became too few and the parish had to close.
Ken also worked tirelessly for the New Democrats for decades and even ran for them in one federal election.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on October 23rd at Connelly – McKinley funeral on 114 St. and 100th Avenue.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 24th at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church (12810 – 111 Ave.)
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kipnes Centre for Veterans.
