Obituary of Kenneth Lyon Smith
June 12, 1936 –September 30, 2020
Formerly of Centreville
In the arms of his loving wife Gayle, 8 days prior to their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Ken passed away at the Fairmount Nursing Home where he received tender loving care from exceptional nurses and PSW’s. We are truly grateful for all of you. Ken leaves behind his daughter Wendy (Kirk), son Wayne (Cathy) and his only grandson Evan Meneilley. He will be fondly remembered by Jennifer, Ian, Claire and Brock Hamilton, Caitlin and Paul Lutz, Terry and Trevor Hoekstra and families, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. Dear brother of Delbert (the late Helen), Carl (Glenda), Betty Storring (Paul), Joan Storring (Eugene Kidd), Bill Smith, the late Ralph Smith (Glenda), the late Earl Smith (Monica), Jack (Janice), Eric (Linda), Russell (Estella) and Bonnie Heasman (Charlie).
Ken lived in the Trenton area until he moved to Centreville at the age of 19. He worked in construction, on the pipeline, in various dairies, was a millwright and eventually retired from Beatrice Foods as maintenance supervisor in 1998. He enjoyed hunting, inventing things, helping neighbours and of course restoring John Deere tractors. He attended Centreville United Church where he was a board member for many years, a member of the Centreville Fair Board with one term as president, belonged to the Kingston Antique Association and was chairperson of Homesteader days. He also served his community as a Councillor and a School Board Trustee. We would like to thank our relatives and friends for their comforting words during this difficult time. A special thank you to Dr. Sandra Cowan for taking care of Ken and our family for over 40 years.
