KENNETH ALFRED MANN
1932-2020
Peacefully, on Monday, July 13, 2020 at Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home, Ken passed away at the age of 88 years, after a short illness.
Ken was born on April 10, 1932, in Fort Frances, Ontario. His family moved to Winkler, Manitoba, where his father owned the pharmacy, and then later to Winnipeg. Ken also spent time with relatives in Victoria, BC, and Minnedosa, MB. He met his wife, Lorraine, at the Crescent Fort Rouge Young People’s Group, at which church they were married. Lorraine and Ken enjoyed many road trips together, from coast to coast. They remained together for 58 years, until her passing in 2015.
When Ken was younger, he worked for Manitoba Mines Branch, surveying in the far north. He later worked for MTS until his retirement. A long time rail buff, Ken enjoyed model railroading, publishing several articles and winning awards for his skill. He had fond memories of travelling by train across Canada with his brother Russ and sister-in-law Gayle. Though quiet, Ken was keenly intelligent. His other interests were many and varied, including playing the recorder with friends, curling, home computing, and building electronic gadgets like the first remote garage door opener in the neighbourhood.
Ken was predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine, and his brothers Sandy and Maurice. He is survived by daughter Jennifer (Dave); son Stuart and his children Kaitie and Casey; and Ken’s family Russell (Gayle), Marian, and all their families; sister-in-law Pat Barth and nephews Malcolm, Geoffrey (Julie); Andrew (Allison); and all Ken’s extended family and dear friends, who know who they are.
Many thanks to all the nurses, aides, and staff at Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home. Ken was very well cared for and will be sadly missed by all there who met him.
At Ken’s request, there will be no formal memorial service. Interment of his ashes will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s name to the Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R3T5K9.
