With heavy hearts, the family of Ken Henderson announces his unexpected passing, which occurred at the Sus Health Centre on April 7, 2020. Ken was born in Saint John on August 5th, 1952; a son of the late Ronald and Margaret (McLeod) Henderson, loving husband of B. Susan (Gowan) Henderson, and father to Melissa (Glenn) Tremblett, Justin Henderson, and Ashley (Andrew) Stevens. Ken was Grampie to Avery, Raiden, Harper, and Andersen, and his loving canine companion, Goldie.
He graduated from vocational school in 1970, and started his career with John Searle, Atherton Business Machines, and was employed by Irving Paper for 37 years; during his time there he was a Health and Safety Representative, and a member of the ERT. Ken was also an avid blood donor, donating both whole blood and plasma, a Saint John Ambulance volunteer, and a member of the Orange Lodge; he held the position of Treasurer and Master at the time of his passing. He was also an avid outdoorsman, who loved to fish, and hunt deer every year. Ken was larger than life; he loved his family, and especially his grandchildren; he loved to laugh and had the gift of gab. Ken enjoyed ATV’ing and was a member of both the ATV club in Sus, as well as the Fish and Game Association in Sus. He was also part of the executive of the Saint John ATV club in years past. Ken and his wife owned a home and wood lot in Parlee Brook, where he enjoyed cutting his own firewood every year, and tending to a large vegetable garden. He made friends with almost everyone he met. He was a friendly, loyal friend and there was nothing he would not do for a friend, or anyone in need. Ken was extremely thoughtful, and was known to make baked beans for friends and neighbours, and offered his help readily to anyone. He learned how to make chocolate chip cookies for his grandkids, always making sure they had “a treat” when he saw them. Ken shared all he had with family and friends, loved life, and to have a drink of Crown. He will be surely missed by family and friends.
We can’t imagine our lives without him; he will always be in our hearts, and not far from our minds.
Along with his wife of 34 years, Susan, his children, and grandchildren, Ken is survived by sisters Carol (David) Craig and Donna (Danny) Adams, and mother-in-law Carol Gowan. Ken was pre-deceased by his parents, Ronald and Margaret, maternal aunt Joyce Gillespie, maternal grandmother Deborah McLeod, niece Angela Adams, nephew Danny Adams Jr., and father-in-law John “Jack” Gowan. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road. For those who wish, remembrances to the IWK, or Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ken F Henderson August 5 1952 April 7 2020 (age 67)..
