Obituary of Kelly Graham
At her home surrounded by the love of her family, in Owen Sound on July 27th, 2020. Kelly Leigh Graham (nee Matheson), of Owen Sound, at the age of 55 years. Dearly loved wife of Jeffrey Graham for 28 years. Loving mother of Heather Graham of Vancouver, Neil Graham (Sara Ouellette), Kyle Graham and Alex Graham all of Owen Sound. Survived by her sisters Shauna McFarlin (Jim) of Barrie and Kyla Greenham (Curtis) of Mount Albert. Predeceased by her parents Russell and Marilyn Matheson and her brother Ian Matheson.
Kelly was born in Scarborough, Ontario and was raised in Markham, Ontario. She had strong ties to her family heritage in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and to her grandparent’s farm in Loch Katrine, Nova Scotia. She first attended Acadia University in Nova Scotia and then graduated from Queens University Faculty of Law in 1991.
She worked her entire professional life as a lawyer in the City of Owen Sound, serving many city residents and institutions as well as clients throughout Grey and Bruce Counties. Beginning in 1989, as a summer student at Middlebro’ Stevens, she worked closely under the mentorship of the late John Middlebro’ Sr., specializing in labour and employment law. She subsequently became a full partner at Middlebro’ & Stevens. Recently, she formed the law firm of Boyce and Graham LLP with Herbert Boyce.
She was dedicated to the practise of law, and more importantly, dedicated to the well being of her clients, many whom became close friends and acquaintances. She often worked after hours and on weekends to accommodate client schedules. She also served on the boards of a wide range of local groups including many not for profit agencies.
Friends may call at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Thursday, July 30th, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday July 31st, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, 50 people will be allowed in the building at any given time, and visitors are asked to wear a mask and follow physical distancing rules.
A private funeral service for Kelly Graham will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday July 31, 2020, with Kristal McGee of First United Church officiating. Extended family and friends are welcome to watch the funeral service via live stream by visiting the funeral home website www.woodfuneralhome.ca, on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound. Kelly was a great person and mentor. She was always at hand for advice and a kind word. I enjoyed getting her to know her professionally and personally. I considered her a good friend. Kelly will truly be missed by many. My condolences go out to her family and close friends.
