KEITH OLIVER STEVENS
September 30, 1941 – January 19, 2020
Stevens, Keith Oliver – Passed away at the age of 78, in Halifax, NS. Born in Boutiliers Point, NS on September 30, 1941, Keith was a son of the late Victor A. and Esther G. Stevens, Boutiliers Point. Keith’s early years were spent in Boutiliers Point before the family moved to Fairview, NS. His formative years were spent in the Fairview/Armdale school system before attending Halifax Vocational School.
Keith joined the Halifax Police Department in 1965, retiring after 35 years of active duty, both as a uniformed policeman, and a detective. He was promoted to sergeant and headed a platoon in the Brava zone.
During his time in the HRM Police, Keith founded the Water Wheels scuba divers, teaching young men and women who were paraplegics, to scuba dive.
Keith’s family were first and foremost in his life. He made it known that they were loved and that he always had their back. In every situation, he looked out for them, telling each one that they were truly loved, unconditionally.
Keith enjoyed hunting, fishing, and canoeing, as well as scuba diving. The solitude of the woods and rivers of Nova Scotia became his haven, as he drank in the tranquility of nature. His father taught him the art of salmon fishing, and Saint Mary’s River and Lahave River became a sanctuary. He enjoyed the camaraderie of fishing with his father whom he greatly admired and later canoe trips with children, grandchildren and friends.
Keith was a born-again Christian and strove to live an exemplary life, knowing that he was being a role model for his family. Violet was his rock upon whom he depended and together, they built a loving home filled with laughter, fun, and adventure. Violet was simply his mainstay.
He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 58 years, Violet (Pye); daughter Catherine Ann Boutilier (Vincent); sons Robert (Monica); Norman (Sandy); grandchildren Miranda Robinson (Bryce); Tyler; Josiah (Jody); Krysten; Haley and Mason; great-grandchildren Levi, Brielle, Brayan. Survived also by his sister, Judith Burgess (Dayrl); brothers, Victor (Karen Smith); Bruce (Jennifer); nieces, Darlene Stevens, Jennifer and Jacqueline Burgess. Along with his parents, Keith was predeceased by nephew Victor E. Stevens.
Visitation will occur at Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s Cove Road, Tantallon. Saturday, January 25, 2-5 pm. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 26 from Full Gospel Church, 2256 Larry Uteck Blvd., Bedford, NS. The family is grateful for the loving care of Dr. Howard Conter.
