Keith McKnight McAuley was born at the McAuley farm homestead May 18, 1930, and passed away peacefully December 12, 2020, at Southeast Integrated Care Centre Moosomin at the age of 90.
Keith grew up on the family farm at McAuley and farmed his entire life, proudly taking off his last crop in the fall of 2020. Farming was his life, taking only a short break to work for Manitoba Hydro bringing electricity to the rural area in 1946-47. He was involved in the community in his younger years, serving on the RM of Archie council, McAuley United Church board, and coaching his children in baseball and hockey. He also enjoyed curling and playing baseball in his youth. Keith married Laverne Martin on October 13, 1958, and they enjoyed over 50 years of married life together. He greatly enjoyed becoming a grandfather and spent countless hours with the grandchildren reading stories, giving quad rides, and playing games. His memories of the ‘old days’ were of great interest to his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and Keith could remember incredible details right up until the time of his passing.
Keith was predeceased by his parents Susan (Lee) and Wesley McAuley, wife Laverne, and brother Doug. He is survived by his 3 children Martin, Karen (Keith Cousins), and Jeff (Kim) and dearly loved grandchildren Jason, Tyler, Kylie, Matthew, and Scott. He is also survived by his siblings Evelyn, Beth, and Robert along with numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
The family would like to thank Dr. Crouse, Dr. Van der Merwe, nurses and staff at Southeast Integrated Care Centre for the excellent care and compassion Keith received in the last days of his life on Earth.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Moosomin & District Health Care Foundation in memory of Keith.
Life is a book in volumes three,
the past, the present, the yet to be,
the past is written and laid away
the present we’re writing day by day
the future and what is yet to be
is locked from sight, God keeps the key.
