Keith E Douglas Adams 1931 2020

We are sad to announce the passing of Keith E. Douglas Adams on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Trilogy LTC in Scarborough. Keith leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Barbara (nee Dobson), and his 2 daughters, Lori and Donna (David). Keith is pre-deceased by his brother, Ron. He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Ruth (nee Hamilton), and his nieces and nephews: Mark (Ruth), David (Lucy), Glen (Barb), Megan, and Caren.
Keith was an Anglican priest, serving at the parishes of St. Johns Norway, Toronto, Manvers (St. Pauls Bethany, Trinity the Marsh, Millbrook, and St. Marys, Lifford), Christ Church, Campbellford, St. Albans & St. Georges, Peterborough, St. Johns Dixie, Mississauga. He was serving at St. Andrews & St. Timothys in Rexdale when he retired in 1996.After retirement, Keith served as interim rector at St. Johns in Stirling.
He also volunteered with CAMH in the Peterborough area, with a focus on mental health for the older generation. Keith and Barbara met at Earl Haig Secondary School, married in 1955, and had 3 children (1 still-born son). Keith graduated from Ryerson in Electronic Technology, working in telecommunications and computer design. He taught telecommunications in the RCAF Reserves. He went back to school in 1963 to study theology at Trinity College. He graduated and was ordained in 1966.
Keith was far from a traditional priest. He is well remembered for setting up his home stereo in the church so he could play Jesus Christ Superstar as the Good Friday sermon.
Participants in study groups and prayer groups may remember that he enriched his spiritual life by studying the faith traditions of Celtic Christians and North American Indigenous peoples. He also did a lot of reading on the intersection between theology and science.Keith was generous with his time and skills. He helped out by fixing wonky tractors, lawnmowers and flickering lights, tossing bails of hay, and giving rides to people with no access to public transit. As a father of two girls growing up in the 60s and 70s, Keith stood out as a father who believed we could do anything we put our minds to. We were raised with the confidence to ask questions, and chase whatever dreams we had.
We plan to celebrate his life when we can all get together, share stories and hugs, without fear. If you wish to make a donation in Keiths memory, please consider the Primates World Relief Fund, the ASL Society of Canada, or CAMH.
