It is with profound sadness the family of Katherine (Kay) Black announces her passing on September 1, 2020. Kay will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children, Evelyn Black, Debi (Rick) Reinhardt, Robert (Yolanda) Black, Daryl (Cheryl Neufeld) Black, Ron (Chris) Black; her grandchildren, Jennifer Appleby, Amy Black, Alyssa (Garret) Urness, Katherine and Robert Black; and her great-grandchildren Jackson and Taylor Appleby and Bella Urness. She is survived by her sister Dorothy (Math) Harty. Kay is predeceased by her husband Robert (Swede) Black; daughter Marlette Black; and granddaughter Jessica (Zielke) Metcalfe.
Kay was born in Faith, Alberta on November 1, 1925. Kay was passionate about her family, faith and home. She was a kind, caring, compassionate, accepting woman with a wonderful infectious laugh. She was an elegant, stylish woman who looked great dressed up or wearing a pair of rubber boots. Kay was a beautiful soul inside and out. The coffee pot was always on and everyone was welcome. Her time was spent taking care of her family, gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, doing cross word or jigsaw puzzles and she truly enjoyed a good or even a bad game of bridge. Kay will be fondly remembered for the impact she made on our lives.
We would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Capital Care Strathcona Heritage House who cared for her the last four years.
Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 13 Brower Drive Sherwood Park, at 12:30 pm, on Thursday, September 10, 2020. The Mass will be livestreamed from the OLPH website: www.olph.ca/video/, or at: facebook.com/olphsherwoodpark/videos.
