Karri Lee MacRae Urquhart 19702020

Karri Lee (MacRae) Urquhart
1970-2020
Karri Lee (MacRae) Urquhart – 49, Hammonds Plains,
passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Hospice
Halifax after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by
her two beautiful daughters, Gracen Heather Claire Urquhart and Kaylee
Rae Urquhart, along with her devoted dog, Charlie.
As a young girl, Karri exercised her athletic aptitude by
participating in a variety of sports including ringette. She had an
ear for music and was a talented musician and avid line dancer. After
graduating from school and spending a year at university, Karri
decided to follow in her mother’s footsteps and began a
successful career in the beauty industry. She achieved Master Hair
Stylist status with The Head Shoppe organization, Bedford, and was a
part time teacher at the Hair Design Centre in Clayton
Park.
After becoming a mother, she put her career on pause to
devote her energy and attention into raising her daughters. She
volunteered her time as a Brownie leader and then became the
consummate soccer Mom, indelible fan, manager and coach for Halifax
County United (HCU) Soccer Club. Even under the most brutal of weather
conditions, Karri could always be found in attendance, cheering on her
daughters and their respective teams. Her greatest joy was watching
Gracen and Kaylee play soccer as they attended games and tournaments
throughout the Maritimes. As the girls entered grade school, Karri
re-joined the work force as an Educational Program Assistant, with
Halifax Regional School Board. This opened up an entirely new career
path while allowing her to be with her girls during their time
attending Kingswood Elementary.
Karri was predeceased by her mother, Darlene MacRae and her
stepfather, Terry Sherlock. (Wellington, Nova Scotia) and her devotion
to them never wavered as she cared for each throughout their own
lengthy illnesses, until their passing. She was also predeceased by
her uncle, Frank McMaster (Sharon). (Onoway, Alberta)
Along with her daughters, Karri is survived by her older
brother, Kevin MacRae, Wellington; uncles, John McMaster, Nine Mile
River; Bob McMaster (Linda), Dartmouth; aunt, Cheryl McMaster,
Enfield; nephew and niece, Chase and Holly Jordan, Hammonds Plains;
numerous cousins and the entire Urquhart clan, including aunt, Carol
Church who flew in from British Columbia to be by her
side.
To her dear friend, Bonnie Forrestall, who gave tirelessly of
her time arranging a photo shoot, Valentine’s spa day, movie
nights and sleep overs in order for Karri and her girls to spend
quality time together while in hospice, not to mention countless hours
and overnights spent by her side so Karri wouldn’t be
afraid; thank you.
To aunt, Linda McMaster, and dear friend, Jenny Smith who too
gave tirelessly of their time to be with her during the days and
nights ensuring she wasn’t alone and were there holding her
hands as Karri slipped away; thank you.
To the many friends who spent their time sharing memories and
laughter with Karri throughout her stay in hospital and hospice
including childhood friends, Trina, Paula and Theresa and Mark and
Marsha for capturing the love and beauty of Karri and her girls
through their photography and her Head Shoppe, Kingswood Elementary
and HCU families, neighbours and past clients; thank
you.
The family would also like to extend much love and gratitude
to her beloved uncle, Bob, whose devotion to his ‘Tweety
Bird’ remains undeniable; thank you.
A special thank you to Dr. Lori Wood and team at the VG
Hospital and to all the staff and countless volunteers at Hospice
Halifax who afforded her and her family much love, friendship,
support, care and dignity during the last days of her
life.
