It is with great sadness that the family of Lyn Unsworth announce her passing on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital in her 87th year.
Lyn is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Douglas Ian Unsworth, her parents, Frank and Cora Selby. Survived by her children, Leslee (Richard) Ganton and Kara (Brian) Reed, her grandchildren Samuel, Emma, Rosemary, Elizabeth Ganton and Georgia Reed, and her siblings Oriel (Mac) MacDonald, Tim (Margo), Charles (Jean), and Vern (Mildred) Selby.
Karlyn “Lyn” Phyllis Mary Unsworth (nee Selby) was born on June 10, 1933, in Drummondville, Quebec. Lyn and Ian were married in Montreal on September 15, 1958. Soon after, they moved to Toronto and had Leslee and Kara. They joined a church and Lyn committed her life to Christ in the early 1970s. She became involved in Bible studies to learn about Jesus and the power of prayer. Years later, the family moved to Brantford, where Lyn volunteered in her church, and other organizations, Christian Women’s Club and Women Alive. Lyn also worked as the Women’s Ministry Coordinator.
In many of the neighbourhoods where Lyn and Ian lived, she felt God urging her to start Bible studies. This was a good way to meet the neighbours, study the Bible, and pray for their needs.
When Ian retired, they moved to a cottage on Kenesis Lake and later to the town of Haliburton. Then, they moved to Burlington where Lyn joined Bible Study Fellowship. Finally, they moved into a condominium in Milton to be closer to their family and the hospital. They attended Milton Bible Church and joined a Connect Bible study.
In 2017 Ian was diagnosed with cancer. He went into the hospital for treatment and later died on February 21, 2018. Lyn was heartbroken and leaned heavily on God and her family for strength and comfort. Even in her late eighties, Lyn felt God urge her to start one last Bible study. She asked a friend to teach it, and she invited people from the building.
However, this was not Lyn’s last home. In the Bible, Jesus said to his disciples, “My father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me” (John 14:2-3). Therefore, we know that Lyn is now with Jesus and Ian in Heaven.
Thank you to all family and friends who have supported Lyn over the years.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.
