Joye Oswald 1937 2020

Obituary of Joye Oswald
OSWALD, B. JOYE – December 28, 1937 – April 19, 2020
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joye Oswald (nee McMillan) after a long illness, on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Joye passed away peacefully at home with her daughters at her side. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 59 years, James Oswald. Joye will be sadly missed by her four daughters, Cathy Oswald, Wendy Liston, Judy Oswald and Dawn Pier. Loving grandmother to Scott Oswald (Sheena Robertson), Ian Bedore (Patricia), Jenna Bedore (Mykol Knighton), Jacob Bedore, Kathleen Prosser (Troy) and Laura Liston and great-grandmother to Hudson Warner-Bedore, Cole, Henry and Louie Bedore and Logan Oswald. She is survived by her sister, June Boulerice (Rudy) and her brother-in-law Willis Crooks and will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Joye was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Roma McMillan (nee Clarke) and her brother Roger.
Joye worked for twenty-five years at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute where, as Office Administrator, she was known to all students passing through VCI as the issuer of late slips, among other things. As one colleague put it at her retirement, “We’ve seen Joye at her job … soothing hurts, curtailing a sob; she was a surrogate mother, psychologist and editor”. Joye was never content to sit quietly for long and was involved in many activities. One of her favorites was curling at the Vankleek Hill Curling Club where she was a long-time member. She shared her love of guitar and line dancing through teaching and perhaps her favourite thing of all was socializing with friends and family at the cottage at Half Moon Lake where she loved a good laugh. Joye loved the sun and creating beauty with her flower gardens (once referred to as Joye’s botanical gardens). She and her sister June loved to play music and sing and over the years travelled to many countries around the world together.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Joye’s caregivers. Without their kindness, dedication and dependability, she would not have been able to live out her last year in the comfort of her own home. A Funeral Service will be held at a future date. In memory of Joye, a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario or the Covid-19 relief efforts would be appreciated.
