In Loving Memory of
Joseph Raymond Pitawanakwat
Sunrise: February 26, 1933 – Sunset: December 25, 2020
Birthplace: South Bay, Manitoulin Island
Raymond passed peacefully at his home in Buzwah, Wikwemikong with his loving daughters, son in law and grandchildren by his side.
Loving Husband to the late Marina (nee. Manitowabi).
Son of Daniel and Margaret (nee. Wemigwans) Pitawanakwat (predeceased).
Lovingly remembered by his
stepdaughter Lorraine Debassige (Adam) of M’Chigeeng, stepdaughter Muriel Wakegijig,
daughter Deborah Shawanda (Mark) of Birch Island,
daughter Darlene Pitawanakwat of Buzwah,
son Freddrick Pitawanakwat (predeceased),
son Louis Pitawanakwat of Sagamok,
and daughter Dolores Chum (Roger) of Buzwah.
Sadly predeceased by four grandchildren Cory Baa, Logan Baa, Christopher Baa, Boniface Jr Baa
and great granddaughter Sapphire Baa.
God father to Ryan Debassige (Crystal) of Zhiibaahaasing and Herman Wemigwans (Madeline) of South Bay Wikwemikong.
Raymond had many grandsons and granddaughters, two he raised Daniel Pitawanakwat of Birch Island, who has followed in his footsteps, and Janine Pitawanakwat (Travis)
of Manitowaning. All his grandchildren were constant visitors at his home in Buzwah, as well as the family beach where he sat and enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild play. He would travel to M’Chigeeng First Nation, Birch Island, North Bay, Moose Factory Ontario, just to be with his children, grandchildren great grandchildren and great great crandchild. He was a regular at hockey games, tournaments where he amazingly watched his grandsons and granddaughters play the game he loved as a young man. He was a South Bay Rocky.
Raymond spent his early years in South Bay and is a survivor Spanish Residential School, 10 years. After leaving Spanish, he worked in the lumber business for 30 years and retired from E.B. Eddy. Raymond’s greatest achievement that he was proud of was his clean truck driving record where he received annual commendation from his employer.
Baa Maa Pii Papa, Grandpa….Journey well.
Family and friends will gather at St. Ignatius Church in Buzwah
Visitation: Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 11:00AM
Funeral Service: Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 10:30AM
Cremation to follow
All COVID-19 restrictions must be followed including social distancing, limited capacity, hand washing and mask wearing.
