Obituary for Joseph Peter Gauthier
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Peter at the age of 75 from heart disease. Peter was predeceased by his loving wife Audrey. Predeceased by his parents Joseph Aldie Gauthier and Marie Rose Gauthier, his brother Andrew “Andy” Gauthier and Mary Louise Gauthier. Loving brother and card partners of Aldie Gauthier (Donna), Kathy Orsi (Tavy predeceased), Joe Gauthier (Leslie), Margaret Gauthier and Raymond. Peter will be missed by his nephews and nieces David Gauthier (Joanne), Kevin Gauthier (Sara), Chris Orsi (Kim), Damion Orsi (Deanna), Matthew (Whitney), Bradley Gauthier, Ryan Gauthier, Nicole Gauthier, Chris Gauthier, Melissa Sheardown (Marc), Brent Johnston (Melanie) and Brandon Johnston whom he taught a lot. He will also be missed by his great nephews and nieces Rachel, Aysel, Kian, Lucas, Matthew, Hailey, Cayden, Colten, Hunter, Nolan and Jacob whom he loved to play with.
Peter was born on June 26, 1945. Peter was educated in the priesthood for six years as a Seminarian where he learned many valuable life lessons before and after he left. He attended McMaster University to receive education in Metallurgy. He started his career at STELCO as a Metallurgist at the Rod and Bar Division until his retirement. He met and married his loving wife Audrey and was married to her for 14 years before she died. He then filled his life with service to others. He valued his Roman Catholic religion and his faith. He was an active member of his church St. Margaret Mary and volunteered as a server, choir member and organizer. Peter was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Peter loved sports of any kind. He loved to curl. He was on the Board of Directors of the HVCC and was President from 2002-2004. At their 140th year Anniversary, he donated all the flags that currently exist. He taught many how to curl and would gladly volunteer his hours to this. He volunteered for challenged youth bowling and for disabled adults in a league. Since 2010 Peter played in a baseball league at Turner Park and really missed playing this year due to Covid. He was known as not only a gentleman but a gentle man. He was always generous. Although he may not have had a lot, he always found a way to give a gift for kindness shown to him. His list of charities that he donated to is truly astounding. We will all miss you, our dear Peter. You can now play the card game 58 or Euchre with all your beloved relatives and friends who have welcomed you in heaven.
