Memorial Donation
Passed peacefully away on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was 87 and is predeceased by his beloved wife Mary and daughter Joanne; parents Alfred and Mary Agnes O’Leary; his sisters Winnifred, Rose, Ellen, Agnes, Francis, Mary, Helen and Pauline; and brothers Alfred, Wayne and Gerry.
He leaves to mourn his beloved children: Tim (Susan), Dermot (Cynthia), Patrick (Paula), Ian (Susan), and Jennifer (Quentin Reddy). His adoring grandchildren: Rebecca, Liam, Alexandria, Callum, Abagail, Izabella, Alyssa and Michael. As well as his sister Pauline’s children, Jeff Myrick (Jill) and Juanita Myrick whom Joe and Mary loved and cared for as part of their own family.
Joe will also be dearly missed by his sisters: Kay Dunne, Bell James and Anne Hayward (Frank); sisters-in-law Emma Hartery, Lorretta Hartery and Gloria O’Leary; his cousin Mary Keating; life-long friend Tom Hartery; close nephews Joseph Hartery (Claudine) and Joshua O’Leary (Jennifer), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Joe also leaves behind his loyal canine companion, Patches, who provided so much comfort to him after Mary’s passing.
Joe was a kind, loving family man who embraced life to the fullest. Always the charmer, he could make anyone smile with his quick wit and sense of humour. A loyal and generous friend, Joe was always there when you needed a helping hand. He was adored by so many and will never be forgotten.
The family offers special thanks to Paula Walsh for the incredible comfort and homecare she provided to Joe over the past five years. They also thank the Heart Congestion Clinic at the Health Sciences Centre and the caring staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Miller Centre for their kindness and support.
Visitation will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home on LeMarchant Road on Monday, January 13 and Tuesday, January 14 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Visitations will also take place at Fahey’s Funeral Home in Trepassey on Wednesday, January 15 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Trepassey, on Thursday, January 16 at 11 am. Internment to follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Portugal Cove South.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe’s memory to the Portugal Cove South Historical Corporation at pcshistoricalcorporation@gmail.com or via mail Box 6, Site 12, Trepassey, NL, A0A 4B0.
Rest in peace dad – we love you and take comfort in knowing that you are with mom and our sister Joanne once again. For you, it will always be about family.
