Joseph Irwin Loucks February 28th 2020

Joe Loucks was born on the family homestead to Billa and Vera Loucks in Fort St. John, the youngest child of four. He grew up on the family farm, which remained an important part of his life. Life on the farm was difficult and this shaped his character. Joe worked in the Peace River country for a year, then at nineteen left to see the world.
Joe was driving trucks for The Salvation Army hostel in London, Ontario ― there he met the Lord and recognized his calling. He entered training college, Soldiers of Christ Session in 1960, still quite a young Christian.
After graduating he met and married Johanna Voth in 1964. They had three children, Karen, Torrey and Mylene. His early life and experience gave him a heart for the homeless and hurting. Joe and Johanna’s careers were mostly spent working with men in rehabilitation programs.
After being stationed across Canada, from London Ontario, Joe and Johanna retired from active service.
After retirement, they moved to Surrey, British Columbia to be close to their grandchildren and support family. Family was always very important, and Joe developed close bonds with all his grandchildren. Still with a heart for the hurting, Joe spent the next 15 years working with vulnerable persons in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
As Johanna’s health declined, Joe spend considerable time caring for her. Johanna was Promoted to Glory in February, 2009.
In September of 2011, Joe met Nancy. They married in June, 2012. At the time of their wedding, Joe made it clear that both families were one family, and always told people he had 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Joe and Nancy felt their marriage was made in heaven, God’s gift to them both.
Joe will be sorely missed by his wife, Nancy ,surviving brother Ewert, his children Karen (Doug), Torrey (Sue), Mylene (Dennis), Pauline (David), Craig, Collin (Laura), grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the many people he befriended.
