Obituary
Joseph Donat “Don” Mazerolle of Fredericton, NB (formerly of Saint John, NB) passed away on October 28, 2020 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital with his family by his side. Don was born on February 2, 1936 in Saint-Léolin, NB to the late Leo and Clementine (Godin) Mazerolle.
As a very young man, Don learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself and his family. He worked on the railway, at shipyards, and as an Orderly at the General Hospital and the Ridgewood Veterans Wing for over 10 years.
Don was a proud Veteran of the Canadian Army, peace keeping in Germany for 2 ½ years before coming back to Canada to continue his life here. He was an early entrepreneur and ran several small businesses including a lumber supply enterprise with his brother and a convenience store with his wife before becoming the Owner/Operator of A&M Appliances for 25 years and then retiring.
In 1959, Don met the love of his life, Katherine “Kathy” (Murphy) Mazerolle. They married in 1961 and lived together almost inseparably for over 59 years. Together they raised four children, though endured the heartbreak of losing a child during early childhood.
Don was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch #69 for over 50 years. He was a faithful man who attended church regularly and attained his Fourth Degree with the Knights of Columbus Council 8094. Don loved music and played guitar to entertain friends and family. He loved to be with family and was always up for a reunion or gathering of friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, camp and snowmobile. He enjoyed working with his hands and renovating old buildings, customizing the woodworking himself.
Don was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a man who would give his shirt for a friend. He was a good father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them, and a loving grandfather to his six grandchildren. Don was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many!
In addition to his wife, Kathy, he is survived by his sons, Bradley (Patricia) and Derek (Tanya); daughter, Angela (Jamie) Mazerolle; 6 grandchildren, Grace, Jacob, Payton, Mathias, Sophie and Sienna; brothers, Zypher and Adrian; sisters, Anne Marie Clement and Laura (Maurice Pigeon), as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 12pm from the Our Lady of the Assumption Church (360 Dufferin Row) followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
