Jose Alfonso Resendes March 14 1951 Sept. 27 2020

It is with great sadness that we must announce that Jose Afonso (Al) Resendes, 69, of Pitt Meadows, BC passed away suddenly on Sunday September 27, 2020. Born to Manuel and Maria (nee Aguiar) Resendes in São Miguel, Açores, he was the youngest of 4 children. At age seven he immigrated to Canada with his family and, from an early age, worked in the family restaurant business until he and his siblings opened the popular Portuguese restaurant, The Adega. Eventually, he pursued a garden maintenance career running his own business – Blades Garden Service Ltd. – for 19 years.
Al is survived by his brothers Manuel Françisco (Lucia), Antonio Dinis (Helena) and sister Maria do Ceu (Joaquim – deceased). He is greatly missed by his four children and their spouses, Lisa (Ronald), David (Amy), Mark (Chelsey), Danny (Sheenagh) and his ten beloved grandchildren, Halia, Rylan, Teresa, Camilla, Duncan, Maxwell, Avery, Oscar, Thomas and Carter. He is also loving remembered by his nephews and their families – Raimey (Isabelle), Joseph, Michael, Steven, Philip (Rachelle), Mario (Filipa) and André.
Al loved to paint, particularly pictures of his grandchildren and “the old country”. He loved soccer, playing it, coaching it and watching it. He also loved to hate the Vancouver Canucks and wouldn’t miss listening to the BC Lions on the radio. He built great relationships with many of his customers over the years and will be missed by all who knew him.
