Jonathan Robert Hachey
1978-2020
On Saturday May 16, 2020, with loved ones by his side,
Jonathan Robert Hachey, loving partner, son and brother, passed away
after a short but heroic battle with cancer, at the age of
41.
Jonathan was born September 5, 1978 in
Moncton NB to his parents, Robert (Bob) & Joan Hachey. After
high school, he graduated from both the Vancouver Film School and NBCC
Woodstock where he studied his career love, radio broadcasting. He
worked in the radio industry in both Fredericton and Moncton where he
loved his time on air, cherished the relationships with those he met
at work and the community which only reaffirmed his passion for
radio.
Jonathan wasn’t the kind of
person who was about appearances or flare. In fact, many did not know
that he was sick. Truly, Jonathan did not want to burden anyone with
worry as he fought his courageous fight. Rather, he would simply want
you to know that you were loved, that the time he spent in your
company was not taken for granted and never wasted.
“Johnny” was about deeply rooted friendships that
revolved around laughter, respect, trust, integrity and love. He had a
long-standing love of movies and music. Most notably when listening to
90’s grunge/alternative rock and taking full advantage of
free movie rentals when working at Blockbuster Video during his high
school days.
As years went on, he became the fun
loving “Uncle Johnny” to his niece and nephew. He so
loved to talk and joke with them, play and encourage them to get into
trouble. He will forever be their guardian angel.
As a son, a brother and a partner,
Jonathan was an honest, soft hearted protector who stopped at nothing
to make sure his family was looked after. His deep belly laugh and
sarcastic wit at family gatherings will always be remembered along
with his charming smile, heartfelt and protective hugs. There was
never a picture he didn’t want to be a part of, a smile that
didn’t originate deep in his heart or a laugh that was
half-assed. He wore his heart on his sleeve and gave everything to
everyone. Jay, we are better people for the time we got to spend with
you.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his
maternal grandparents and his paternal grandmother. He is survived by
his partner Matthew (Moncton NB), his second mother, Elaine (Riverview
NB) & special fur friend Lancelot, his parents Bob &
Joan (Moncton NB) his brother Mike (Krista) (Halifax NS), his niece
Ellianna and nephew Barrett, paternal grandfather Edward (Jacquet
River NB) along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Due to the restriction on large
gatherings, a celebration of life will be held in the fall in order to
give Jonathan the proper send off from friends & family far
and wide.
