John Prockiw 2020

Obituary for
John Prockiw
After more than nine decades, my work here is done. “I lived to tell,” as a person who had a difficult but great life to look back on. While a necessity in my youth, growing up during the Depression, being self-sufficient with a strong work ethic was important to me throughout my whole life.
During my 93 years, I acquired many talents and areas of knowledge: farmer, pilot, school bus driver, auto mechanic, machinist, wood worker, artist, inventor, business man, baseball player, golfer and even perfected the brewing of white lightning. I travelled every place I ever wanted to go: NWT, Alaska, Mexico, the US and throughout Canada. I had every job that I wanted to have. I learned all that I wanted to learn and I fixed everything I wanted to fix.
I always told the truth, even if it wasn’t what others wanted to hear. It was an honor for me to be friends with some truly great people. So many things in my life seemed of little significance at the time they happened but then took on a greater importance as I got older. The memories I’m taking with me now are so precious and have more value than all the gold and silver in my shadow boxes. There was timeless words of wisdom and knowledge I gained from Vuyko John Paish and friends Joe Bielish and Ernie Paskevich who have gone before me.
In addition to my parents, I was preceded in death by my wife, Rose; siblings, Steve, Joe, Alex and Emily; and nephews, Larry, Clayton and Randy. I dearly loved my daughter, Marianne (Michael), Rose’s daughter, Rose Marie (Doug); my grandsons, Warren and Lloyd; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney. I fondly loved my special friend, Doris and thank her for the wonderful memories we shared. I am survived by siblings, Mary, Bazz, Lee and Helen (Lawrence); and brother Joe’s Betty and Alec’s Pat, my dear friends and staff at Bar-V-Nook Lodge, extended relatives and all those I called friends.
My heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors at the Raubenheimer Clinic, and all staff of the George McDougall Healthcare Centre for the amazing care and compassion during my time there.
Come say goodbye and celebrate my wonderful life at my Funeral Service on Saturday, March 14 at 10:30 am at Smoky Lake Complex, 4612 – 54 Avenue, Smoky Lake, AB. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made directly to Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church, PO Box 975 Smoky Lake, AB T0A 3C0.
In love, John.
