Obituary of John Lounsbury
LOUNSBURY- John Francis Lounsbury P. Eng., wise counsellor, eternal optimist and Parkinson challenger went on to his final rest on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital at the age of 77. His was a life guided by faith, family, integrity and community. Born June 7, 1942, in Grimsby, ON, John is survived by his daughter Sarah Lounsbury (Derek Weaver) of Port Stanley and son David (Haley) Lounsbury of Quadra Island, BC. John also leaves behind years of love with his current wife Anne Lounsbury (Doupe, nee Bardell) and her sons Craig (Karen) Doupe and Scott Doupe. Cherished memories will also remain with the grandchildren Claire Weaver, Finn and Eva Lounsbury and Arden and McKenna Doupe. Fond remembrances will likewise be with John’s sisters Catherine (Doug) Galt of Cloyne, Elizabeth (Jim) Jackson of Walker’s Point, brother Bruce (Sue) Lounsbury of Brockville and brothers-in-law Ron (Deborah) Bardell of Corunna and Glen Doupe of London, and his many nieces and nephews. Near family members are Jack and Midge Andruschat and Faye Edgar.
John was an accomplished golfer, duplicate bridge player, Florida State Am shuffleboard player and all-round sportsman. He enjoyed travelling and spending his winters in Palmetto, Florida. He was also a dedicated leader at Central United Church and past Master of Brougham Union Lodge No. 269, Claremont.
John, a graduate of Kettering University (GMI), worked at GM plants in Oshawa, St. Catharines, Scarborough, and more recently at the Cami plant in Ingersoll where he was manager of General Assembly and the Joint Venture Programs with Suzuki.
A very special thank you to the medical personnel of STEGH-ICU and 4th floor who became not only John’s supportive caregivers, but loving substitutes for his family and friends because of the Pandemic.
As per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). Because of COVID-19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held online on Saturday, June 20, 2020, with the Rev. John Brown officiating.
