Obituary of John Hughes
HUGHES, Evan John Oliver surrounded by family at Southampton Hospital, Wednesday February 12, 2020. John Hughes of Sauble Beach and formerly of Milton in his 97th year. Beloved husband of the late Violet ‘Vi’ Hughes (nee Nash). Cherished father of Pamela-Jean Belanger of Sauble Beach and Howard Vaughn Hughes of Toronto. Loving grandfather of Jay (Alana), Mary (Gail), Amber and Bryan, and great grandfather of Aphra, Meadow and Evan. Dear brother of Blodwen Payne of England. Predeceased by parents Leonora (nee Davis) and Bertram Hughes, brother Robert Hughes (Phyllis), sister Sarah Hughes and brother-in-law Bert Payne. John was a member of Her Majesty’s Royal Navy from 1940 – 1947 serving as a rear gunner on the HMS Chiddingfold. He was also a very proud lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Friends may call at the DOWNS AND SON FUNERAL HOME, Hepworth Tuesday February 18th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Hepworth Shallow Lake Royal Canadian Legion Branch 586 will conduct a Legion Service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:45 p.m. Expressions of remembrance to the Hepworth Shallow Lake Royal Canadian Legion Branch 586 or the Sauble Beach Mens Club would be appreciated.
