John’s Obituary
LOWER BARNEY’S RIVER – John Robert “Chuckie” MacKinnon, 63, Lower Barney’s River, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at home with his family by his side.
Born in Ottawa, Ont., he was a son of the late Ivan Joseph and Mary Catherine “Tadda” (MacDonald) MacKinnon. In earlier years, he worked on fishing boats out of Lismore. John was employed as a welder with the former Peak Construction, Lower Barney’s River, working at McCain’s Foods in Cavendish, P.E.I. Following, he was a welder with the former Trenton Works for many years and finished working with the Nova Scotia Department of Highways in 2016 due to an accident. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mentoring youth at the gun range and in survival techniques. John was a hard working, soft hearted, family man who will be forever loved by his family.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Mary Jo-anne MacKinnon; daughter, Jennifer MacKinnon, Lower Barney’s River; son, Ivan MacKinnon, Truro; sister, Janice Ross, Antigonish; brother, Daniel (Doris) MacKinnon, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Annie MacKinnon, Michigan; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, William in infancy, Brennan, John and Gerry.
In honour of John’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
