John’s Obituary
MacKenzie, John Robert, Sr. – age 68 of Tatamagouche Mountain and Truro, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on November 22, 2020. Born in Truro, November 10, 1952, he was a son of the late Marion M. MacKenzie. John had a thirty-eight year career with Crossley Carpets (Tandus), retiring as Senior Weaver 1. In his teens, John was a volunteer with The Truro Boys Club and was where he met his wife, Nancy. John was a true family man who was deeply devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren and would do anything for them. He loved the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing or gardening and enjoyed watching hockey games on television. John was a great story-teller and always quick with a joke. In the summers, spending time on the beach at the cottage in Parrsboro was one thing he enjoyed greatly, but mostly, spending time with his grandchildren was the most memorable. Surviving are, his wife of 48 years, Nancy (Henry); son, John (Lana), Truro; daughters, Angela (Lionel) Wright, Truro; Andrea (Erick) Reid, Onslow Mountain; grandchildren, Emilee, Grace, Mackenzie, Natalia, Sarah and Noah; sister, Barb (Reg) Galloway; brother, Joe “Richard” (Diane) MacKenzie; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his close friend, Spencer Hutchinson, who he loved like a brother. Cremation has taken place with no visitation or funeral service to be held. Memorial donations to the VON would be appreciated. John’s family wish to thank the VON and the nurses in ICU at Truro Hospital for their care and compassion shown to John.
