Obituary
Service Details
Peacefully and surrounded by his family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Leslie Moir (Les), in Winnipeg, MB., after a diagnosis of esophageal cancer.
Les is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jane (nee McMechan), daughters, Alana (Tim), Cara (Bill), and Teresa (Jay), grandchildren, Bryson, Aiden, Hannah, Emma and Sophia, his dear sister, Heather (Doug), nieces, Nicole, Brandi (Scott), Loretta (Keith) and nephew, Dean as well as his sisters-in-law, brothers-in law and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Les was predeceased by his father, James, mother, Florence, infant brother, Allan and sister, Ellen.
Les was born at Pierson, MB. NE SEC.35-2-29 W1, Edward Munc. and lived on the Tilston family farm SW 21-5-29 W1 until 1956 when he moved to Melita. After graduating from school, Les worked in oil exploration at High Level, Alberta and then at Melita Creamery before moving to Winnipeg in 1968. Les worked for Coca-Cola from driver’s helper to District Sales Manager, retiring in 2004. Les was instrumental in the design and present day World’s Largest Coca-Cola can in Portage La Prairie, MB. Les was president of the 141 Fishing Club in the 1980’s.
Les and Jane loved to travel and many special trips and fond memories were made visiting the British Isles, Australia, New Zealand, Disney World, Alaska, Newfoundland, Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. Retirement at the cottage was an idyllic location for the peacefulness, nature, walking and family and friend gatherings. South Padre Island, Texas, was a perfect winter escape from Manitoba’s bitter winters for 14 years.
Dad enjoyed sharing his hunting and fishing experiences with brothers-in-law, sons-in-law and grandchildren as well as discussing his knowledge of history. He was a great provider, father and role model. Dad’s greatest joy was being surrounded by his family and so many great times were had, fishing, berry picking with the grandkids and laughing while sitting around the firepit. Thank you for being our Dad and Papa. Please honor Dad’s memory with good deeds and kindness.
“Cheers” Dad
The Family would like to sincerely thank everyone for their support and compassionate care – CancerCare – Dr. Green, Dr. Budahan, Dr. Rathod; HSC-GH4 and GA7; CIVP nurses, especially, Tamara, Diane and Laura; ER staff; St Boniface Palliative Care and the doctors and nurses who made his last days comfortable.
