It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, John Janzen on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
John was born on November 6, 1921 in the Bloomfield district of Plum Coulee, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Janzen; brothers George, Henry, Jacob, Bill, Peter, Abram, Frank, David; father Jacob and mother Sarah Elias. John was the 4th child of 12 children.
John is survived by daughters Linda (Neil) Thiessen; Evelyn (Erik) Hansen; son Ken (Yvonne) Janzen; grandchildren Cheryl Thiessen (Brian), Keith (Jonquil) Thiessen, Nathan (Kelly) Thiessen, Brian Hansen, Fabian (Lisa) Hansen, Craig (Megan) Hillier, Corey (Alison) Hillier, Randi Janzen, Kenny Janzen, Michelle Janzen, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. John is survived by brother Chuck (Linda) Janzen; sisters Sarah Buhler and Mary Bergen; brother-in-laws Dave (Ella) Zacharias, Pete (Hugeutte) Zacharias.
John grew up in Rosengart, Mb. After marrying Betty they lived in Reinland, farmed a little in Dominion City, back to Reinland then on to Winnipeg where he worked at a meat packing plant, for Qualico Construction, and part owner of Guaranteed Homes, then started his own successful business, John Janzen Construction Co. John also served as CO (conscientious objector) in Riding Mountain National Park. He retired in 1992 and enjoyed his retirement years with his many friends at a few favourite coffee shops and oh how he loved his coffee! He enjoyed spending time with his family, many relatives, many acquaintances thru business and numerous friends from Nassau Street Church.
Dad was a very loving, caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was always helping out his family with household projects. Whether it was full construction, reconstruction like tearing down walls or smaller projects like building sheds, decks and even the odd tree house for his grandchildren. He loved eating out with family or friends and traveling with Mom to spend time with both.
Dad will be dearly missed and forever in our minds and in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
A private family burial is planned for June 14, 2020.
