With great sadness the family of “John Red Hughie” MacDonald announce his peaceful passing which occurred surrounded by family at the Kings County Memorial Hospital, Montague on Saturday, December 5, 2020. He was aged 80 years of Naufrage. He was a caring and loving father to his children Stephen (Bernadine), Chris (Frankie), Joanne (André), and Robert (Connie) and will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Ryan, Emily, Lydia, Matthew, Liam, Peggy, Syl, Caleb, Luke, Dora and great grandchild Rylie and dear friend Christine.
Also feeling the great loss of John’s passing are his siblings Mary, Bernie (Jenny), Wayne, Pauline, Barb, Phyllis, Eileen (Glen) and Donna (Peter); dear brother-in-law of Lennie (Isabel), Jenny, Kay, Bernadette (Percy), Charlie (Doreen) and Ronnie.
John was born in Cable Head on December 9, 1939. He was the son of the late Hugh and Mary Jane MacDonald. Predeceased by his wives Peggy (O’Hanley) and Peggy (Feehan). As well as siblings Donnie, Dot and Gladys (George). Predeceased also by his brothers and sisters-in-law Mildred, Elmer, Maude, Wally, Helen, Mary, Frank, John Joe, Danny, Frances, Lavina, Gerry and nephew Tony.
John will be deeply missed by numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and members of the Naufrage fishing community where he fished for 65 years, his lifelong church community of St. Margaret’s and many friends and acquaintances that were blessed to spend time with him.
Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place for family only. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church for invited guests only with interment to follow in the church cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of John can be made to St. Margaret’s Cemetery Fund.
